Welcome to the Department of English Language and Literature. You are about to enter the world of literature. We hope you have an enjoyable and fruitful four years and take pleasure and inspiration out of the literary works that will be discussed during your stay with us. The language of teaching at the Department of English Language and Literature is English. Our students are expected to sit a placement test at the beginning of their first term to evaluate their command of the English language. According to the results of this exam, students who need further help in language skills spend their first two terms undergoing a preparatory programme designed to improve their command of English, after which they are reintegrated with the undergraduate programme of the department. All students (except those repeating a course) are expected to fully attend the courses. Attendance will be taken in each session. Departmental announcements will be displayed on the bulletin boards in the fourth floor corridor. Each year (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years) and each academic staff have their own space on the bulletin boards. Please be sure to check your section of the bulletin boards every day. Course requirements and texts to be read will be announced in class for each particular course. All students are expected to come to class having read the text(s) assigned in class. Cheating and plagiarism are definitely not tolerated in this department. Students are expected to behave in strict compliance with the ethical principles of academic life and with the necessary self-discipline in class and during exams.
